A Century of Conservation

For 100 years, CPRE Rutland & Lincolnshire has been at the forefront of countryside conservation. From our founding in 1926 to today, we've campaigned tirelessly to protect the landscapes, wildlife, and rural communities that make our region so special. As we celebrate this milestone, we look back at our achievements and forward to the next century of protecting what matters.

Our Journey

100 Years of Progress

1926
CPRE Founded
The Council for the Protection of Rural England is established to protect the countryside from urban sprawl.
1935
First Local Branch
Rutland and Lincolnshire establish their first local CPRE branch, focusing on protecting agricultural land.
1949
National Parks Act
CPRE campaigns result in the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, protecting Britain’s finest landscapes.
1968
Countryside Act
New legislation supported by CPRE creates a framework for countryside conservation.
1990
Rutland Water Protection
Successful campaign to limit development around Rutland Water, preserving its natural beauty.
2000
Tranquil Areas Mapping
CPRE publishes first maps of tranquil areas, highlighting the importance of peaceful countryside.
2015
Dark Skies Campaign
Campaign to reduce light pollution and protect the night sky across rural areas.
2026
Centenary Celebration
